Constructed in 1887 in the Italian Renaissance style by the architect Gaudensi Allar, the Toulon Art Museum presents collections of ancient, modern, and contemporary art. Provençal painting from the 17th to the 20th century is well represented. While the collections are essentially composed of Provençal landscape painters from the 1850's (Guigou, Aiguier, Courdouan, Ziem...), the Fauves of Provence (Camoin, Chabaud, Verdilhan... and the Symbolist are not neglected. The contemporary funds (from the 1960's to today) holds a significant place. Nouveau Realism (Arman, César, Klein, Raysse...), Minimal Art (Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt...), Support Surface (Cane, Dezueze, Viallat...) cotoient other movements (Arnal,Chacallis, Buren...) and a large collection of photographs (Cartier-Bresson, Faucon...).
