Musée Municipal Méditerranéen ATP de Cassis

This “Mediterranean” town museum was created in 1910 at the initiative of a painter from Marseilles, Marius Guindon, who donated 47 paintings to the City for the creation of the museum. The museum is housed in a early 19th century rectory (1703-1704).
The village of Cassis being of high historical importance, a permanent exhibition “On the traces of ancient Cassis” is devoted to Cassis during Antiquity. Thanks to a partnership with the Underwater and Undersea Research Department, it aims to promote the historical heritage through archaeological data. A fine collection of archaeological pieces and remnants dating back to Roman occupation is on display, as well as ancient wrecks discovered off the coast of Cassis.
From March 3 to December 31, 2010, an exhibition devoted to the Museum Centennial presents the evolution of the collection from 1910 until nowadays.
The museum participates in all national events such as the European Heritage Days or the “Printemps des Musées”.
