The Annonciade Museum allows us to remember that the village of Saint-Tropez was a focal point of the pictorial avant-garde's activity at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks mainly to Paul Signac who, in 1892, discovered the tiny fishing port while on his yacht, the Olympia. Seduced by the place, Signac bought a house there and built a studio, La Hune, to which he invited a number of painters such as Cross, Luce, Rysselberghe, Matisse, Marquet, Camoin, Bonnard, Roussel and Denis to come and work. The collections span from 1890 to 1950 and are truly surprising, both in terms of quality and coherence. The artists exhibited share a common trait, which is to have based their work on the exploration of color without abandoning figuration. This ensemble is comprised of first-rank painters, belonging for the most part to the Fauve, Pointilliste, and Nabi movements. The Annonciade Museum bears witness to the historic role played by Saint Tropez in 20th century art as a result of one man's passion, Georges Grammont,who gave his fabuleuse collection . It aims to be a living museum and therefore regularly proposes an exhibition each summer acompanied by other events at Christmas or Easter.
