In 1967 the Army Museum becomes the owner of the former Raoul et Jean Brunon collections, housed in the Château Emperi at the time. Since then, it has become a place where the public is invited to take a veritable journey through the history of France, from Louis 16th to World War I. From the soldiers at Fontenay to those at Verdun, all aspects of military life are covered using artworks, craftworks, and often unique manufactured items, such as one of Napoleon's beds at Sainte Hélène. Almost thirty rooms are needed to present several thousand objects, at times very rare and of great quality. This «Army Museum of the Provinces» has been a point of reference for collectors and history buffs alike from the day it was created. Since 1967, the museum is located in the Château Emperi, the former residence of the Archbishop of Arles. It was built between the 11th and 16th centuries. Under siege during the wars of Religion, the château, which lost one of its towers, provides an interesting example of the evolution of defensive architecture in Provence during the Middle Ages.
