Built in 1717 based on plans by Cotte and de Gabriel, the palace draws its inspiration from the Grand Trianon.. Summer home to the Princes of Monaco, it was frequented by the Prince of Metternich and the Queen of Bavaria. The former Carnolès Palace now houses the Menton Beaux-Arts Museum. Collections spanning from the 13th to the 19th century are on permanent exhibit and boast such important works as a Virgin with Child by San Lorenzo, Saint Benedict receiving Maur and Placid by Philippe de Champaigne, Italian Master by Ferdinand Voet… There is also a room dedicated to modern works by artists such as Raoul Dufy, Kisling, Suzanne Valadon, Onthon Firesz…. Four temporary exhibits are presented each year on the ground floor.
